Drs. Jon Aagaard and Steven Armbrust wanted a better way to relate to patients because treating conditions and symptoms didn’t resolve the underlying issues. Patients wanted more access to the doctors and information, so Drs. Aagaard and Armbrust responded by starting A5 and A7 in 2006. Patients quickly appreciated increased access, answered questions and personal care.
Drs. Aagaard and Armbrust were local pioneers in Preventive Care, ahead of the curve. It’s only now, in the 2010s, that the model is gaining popularity nationwide. Today’s patients care more about their overall health. They are more educated and want comprehensive care and personal relationships with their healthcare providers.
Dr. Aagaard is a Board Certified Family Physician who has been in practice in the Wheaton area for over thirty-five years. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency program in Rockford. For a number of years he was on staff at the Wheaton Medical clinic and also served as a physician at the Wheaton Student Health Center. In 2000 he was one of the founding physicians of Cornerstone Medical Group.
In 2006 Dr. Aagaard changed to a Concierge/Personalized Care practice. This has enabled him to better partner with his patients in all of their healthcare needs whether it’s during the day, middle of the night or while on vacation. This model has allowed his patients, as well as Dr. Aagaard, the time to participate in cost-effective, preventative, high-quality medicine.
Dr. Aagaard has served as chairman of the Family Practice Department at Central DuPage Hospital and was also listed two years in a row in the Consumer Guide of top doctors in the Chicago area. He currently resides on the board of Covenant Retirement Communities and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Preventative care and patient education are priorities Dr. Aagaard strives to provide at every encounter. He values the relationship he has with his patients and wants to coordinate a personalized plan that would help each patient with their health care needs.
Dr. Aagaard has been blessed with a wonderful family. He and his Faith have five children that all live in the Wheaton area. He believes what he learns from being a husband and father helps him to become a better doctor.
Dr. Steven Armbrust’s personal commitment is his mission of putting patients and family first. The result of his passion is the Preventative Care model offered by Armbrust7 (A7.) He and his wife Janet have seven children and they are the primary reason A7 was born.
Dr. Armbrust has been highly involved in the medical community as chair of the Family Medicine Department at Central DuPage Hospital, co-founder and President of DuPage Valley Physicians and co-founder and President of Cornerstone Medical Group. Dr. Armbrust has more recently been the Chairman of Cadence Medical group and is currently Chairman of the Northwestern Medical Physician group. Dr Armbrust is also a past recipient of the Illinois Academy Family Physician of the Year Award.
Through it all he has been fortunate to coach all of his children in basketball, watched them play tennis and learned from them on the golf course. He has been blessed to have a wife and children who truly love each other.
At Armbrust7, he is thankful to have a compassionate, caring staff and wonderful patients. Although it may not be “home” it feels like home. It is Dr. Armbrust’s mission that you come away feeling the same.

NURSES
Jana G. – Registered Nurse
Jana has been a nurse since 1983 with almost all of that time spent in family practice. She has worked alongside Dr. Armbrust and Dr. Aagaard since 1992. She decided she wanted to be a nurse in second grade, and thinks it’s been the best career in the world. Jana has been married to Dave since 1991 and they have four children: two boys and two girls. One of the great joys in their lives is being a Foster Family. They have two Golden Retrievers who run the house. Jana grew up in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton so her roots here run deep. Seeing old friends walk through the clinic door makes her smile. She loves reading, having coffee with friends, having coffee alone, having coffee at work, and eating coffee ice cream.
Karen S.-Registered Nurse
Karen has been Dr. Aagaard’s nurse since 1995. She is committed to being your advocate and will utilize her knowledge and experience to compassionately answer all of your medical concerns. She loves learning the latest facts about nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and sharing that information with others. Karen has been married to Tony since 1977 and they have three children and three grandchildren who bring her tremendous joy. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing piano and guitar, working on sewing and craft projects. Karen also enjoys reading, participating in Women’s Bible Studies and church activities as well as attending summertime outdoor events.
Sharon E.-Registered Nurse
Sharon has been a nurse since 1977. After taking a few years off when her kids were little, she returned to full time nursing in 1997. She has held a variety of nursing positions over the years including those in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology offices, hospital nursing and Direct of Nursing in a few Rehabilitation facilities. Sharon has been married for thirty two years and has two sons. Her interests include reading, hiking outdoors, golf and baseball. Sharon is committed to giving quality, compassionate care to her patients and is honored to have been chosen to work with such a caring, compassionate staff.
Jean P.-Licensed Practical Nurse
Jean has enjoyed working with both Dr. Armbrust and Dr. Aagaard since 2002. Since becoming a nurse in 1978, she has been committed to giving quality, compassionate care to all patients. Jean and her husband Tom have been married since 1979 and they have one son, one daughter and three grandsons. Jean’s favorite things are her family, visiting her grandsons in D.C, nature, reading, walking, puzzles and coloring.
Cindy M.-Registered Nurse
Cindy previously worked at Cornerstone Medical Group for over four years and was thrilled to join the Armbrust 7 team. After being an “at home” Mom for twenty years, Cindy decided to pursue her long time interest in studying Nursing. Cindy has been married to her husband Bob for over thirty years. Together they have raised three wonderful children, two daughters and one son as well as a growing number of grandchildren. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking, photography and spending time with her family and friends. Cindy loves working along with the Armbrust 7 team and is here to answer your medical questions and concerns.
MEDICAL ASSISTANTS
Jan M. -Registered Medical Assistant/Administration
Jan has worked in the medical field since 1976 in both patient care as well as administration. She has been the Medical Assistant for Dr. Aagaard since 2000. Her numerous medical and administrative roles over the years have made her an invaluable advocate for patient needs in both practices. Jan has been with Dr. Armbrust and Dr. Aagaard since their Wheaton Medical days and considers it a privilege to have been able to walk beside them in their journey. Jan and her husband Dave have been married since 1982 and they have four grown children. Jan loves nature, spending time outdoors hiking, gardening and playing with her dogs. Other favorite past times are spending time with family, reading and her obsession with the Chicago Cubs.
Nilda N.-Certified Medical Assistant
Nilda has worked in the medical field starting in 1996. She is bilingual and bicultural. She got into this profession because of her love for working and helping others. Her strengths are her patience, compassion and empathy which makes her a great asset as a Medical Assistant. Nilda and her husband Allen have been married since 2006 and they have one son and one daughter. Nilda enjoys spending time with her family, swimming and salsa dancing with her husband. Nilda is thankful to be a part of the Armbrust team and is here to help with any medical questions you may have.

Karen H.-Administrative Assistant
Karen has been working in the medical field in various capacities since 1988. She started working at Central DuPage Hospital, went through training at Fox Valley Hospice and was privileged to be a caregiver to her parents. The medical field and caring for others has always played an important part in her life and career. She has been with Dr. Armbrust and Dr. Aagaard since 2005 and is very thankful for all the experiences she has gained being on such a wonderful team. Karen handles the administrative needs of both practices and is available to help you with any of your questions or concerns. Karen and her high school sweetheart, Stan, have been married since 1980. They have one son, one daughter and a grandson. She loves gardening, dancing, biking, long walks and trying to find the quiet moments in every day.
Cindy W.-Patient Services Representative
Cindy has worked in the medical field since 1980. She has worked as a nurse in pediatrics and geriatrics, and for the past fourteen years as a Patient Services Representative. Cindy has been with Dr. Aagaard and Dr. Armbrust since 2015 and is very grateful to be a part of their practices. She enjoys interacting with patients and looks forward to helping them in any way she can. Cindy and her husband Peter have been married since 1982 and they have one son and one daughter. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, quilting, reading and doing puzzles.
